VOLUNTEER INFORMATION OFFICERS
Program Objective:
To provide assistance and information to
any person that comes to the courts. The program is
intended to help assure fair and equal access to all and to reduce
the stress people often feel in unfamiliar situations. The
objectives are accomplished through Volunteer Information Officers
who provide information to members of the public who use the
courthouse. The volunteers work jointly with court to make the court
a user-friendly environment and improve public access to court
operations.
Position Locations:
At various courthouses throughout the
four counties (Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz).
Generally, the volunteers will be at readily accessible information
booths and stations in the public areas of the courthouses.
What Information Officers Do:
Typical information that Volunteer
Information Officers will provide:
- Directions to specific courtrooms
or facilities within the courthouse;
- Directions to other courthouses or
county facilities;
- Public service information such as
parking, restaurants, or public transportation;
- Calendar information when
available; and
- Other information that is helpful
to the public.
Time Commitment and Hours of
Service:
Volunteers are asked to commitment
for a minimum of six months and for at least 8 hours per week. The
hours of service are normal court hours, typically 8 am to 5 pm.
Volunteers typically are assigned to a 4-hour morning or afternoon
shift.
