Court Fee Payment Methods
Listed below are the different methods which may be available to pay
Court fees, depending on the type of case and the Court location. These
methods, explained below, include payment at the
counter (in person), by mail,
by phone, online (e-payments), and by fax filing.
Payment at the Counter
This method is available at all Court locations.
The staff at the counter will accept payment only for those cases that
are filed in that courthouse. (The exception to this is Traffic. Each of
the
three Traffic Courthouses (South County, Palo Alto, and Santa Clara) will accept payment for
traffic cases from one of the other Traffic Courthouses.) See the Courthouse directory
for links to Courthouse pages to obtain
street addresses, directions and business hours.
Payment is accepted by cash, check (payable to
"Clerk/Superior Court"), or credit card.
Checks accepted include:
- Personal check
- Cashier's check
- Certified check
- Traveler's check
- Money order
Counter credit card payment can be made via HP Client Access Portal
which charges a $6.15 convenience fee per transaction (HP accepts
American Express, Discover and MasterCard only).
Payment by Mail
This method is available at all Court locations.
See the Courthouse directory to obtain mailing addresses.
(Do not use street addresses.)
Payment is only accepted by check, payable to
"Clerk/Superior Court." Do not send cash. Checks accepted include:
- Personal check
- Cashier's check
- Certified check
- Traveler's check
- Money order
Payment by Phone or Online
- Credit/Debit Card or Electronic Fund Transfer
These methods are available for Traffic cases only,
if you are eligible.
There is a convenience fee (charged by the
service used by the Court) of $6.15 for a credit/debit card, or $1.95
for electronic fund transfer, per transaction.
By Phone: Phone payment can be made by calling toll-free (866) 923-2732.
By Internet (e-payments online): Payment is
accepted by logging on to the website at
https://www.paybill.com/sccsuperiorcourt.
For more information, see
credit/debit card and electronic fund transfer payments in the Traffic section of the Court's
Self Service website.
Payment by Fax Filing
This method is available for Civil cases at
Downtown Superior Court (DTS) and South County, and for Family cases at
Family Court and Notre Dame.
To pay by fax filing, you must have a credit card
(MasterCard or Visa only).
To initiate the payment, contact the Official Payment Corporation (OPC)
at 1-800-487-4567. OPC faxes the information to the court, and processes
the credit card transaction. A $9.95 convenience fee is charged by OPC
per document, plus $1 per page.
