Working as an independent contractor of the Court, the
Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) provides legal representation to parents
who are mentally ill or incompetent in Juvenile Dependency Court
pursuant to the California Welfare and Institutions Code § 300
as described in Code of Civil Procedure
CCP 372 and 373 and Juvenile Local Rule 2G(1). The contractor may
assume responsibility for GAL existing and new appointments in
Dependency Court from the date the contract commences.
A flat fee of $500 for the first 20 hours of service dedicated
to each subsequent case will be provided. Initially, a new GAL
will receive a flat fee of $500 for the first 20 hours of
service, which will be applied to the hours of required training
and work on the first case. For hours beyond the
first 20 spent in court or with the client on a per case basis,
contractors will be paid an hourly rate of $35. Mileage will be
reimbursed at the IRS rate; no compensation will be provided for
